Filling a Prescription for a Refugee

Your pharmacy may encounter a scenario where a patient is a refugee claimant who has temporary health coverage. To properly submit a claim for a refugee patient, ensure you do the following:

1. Ensure the patient has a Medavie Blue Cross card that is not expired.
2. Search for and select the patient.
3. Select the 3rd Party tab.
4. Select the Add button. The "Third Party Plan Search" window appears.
5. Search for and select the bill code IF (Interim Federal Healthcare Program).
6. Fill in the following patient details from the Medavie Card.
   • Cardholder
   • Relationship
   • Carrier ID - This field will be automatically populated based on your province.
   • Group ID
   • Client ID
7. Select the Save button.

You can now proceed to fill a prescription for this patient.
